REVOLVING DOORS
The first revolving door or "The Van Kannel Revolving Storm Door" as it was called at the time was invented in 1880 by Theophilus Van Kannel.
It was nothing more than three panels fixed at the center and used for, as the name implied, to eliminate slamming swing doors and cold drafts of air through offices and lobbies.
A few years later Van Kannel developed a four independent wing door designed to handle heavier traffic and to roll aside leaving an opening for moving furniture, etc. in and out of buildings.
Later wings were designed with breakout mechanisms developed to "breakout" the wings in a book fold fashion under certain pressure to allow for a larger volume of persons to pass through in case of emergency.
Then Van Kannel invented what at the time they called a "traffic control adapter" or a speed control to regulate the speed at which a revolving door rotates.
Since then many manufacturers built revolving doors such as Atchinson, known for the curved wing doors, International Steel, General Bronze, Crane, and many others. Many of these old revolving doors built in the late 1800's and early 1900's are still in use today.
Today companies such as Safesec, Boon Edam, C.J. Rush and others manufacture automatic large diameter and security revolving doors.
AT MIRIC Industries we have the experience to repair mostly any revolving door. We have many of the old obsolete parts for the older doors, no longer manufactured doors and we can fabricate new parts when necessary.
MIRIC employees have the knowledge and experience to repair old obsolete revolving doors as well as current models of all manufacturers including automated and security models.
MIRIC has also developed a revolving door maintenance program as a simple economical solution to help prevent large problems or handle them at an early stage and also assure that the door is operating within the New York City/BOCA code.
The program covers safety requirements as outlined under the code by maintaining door breakouts and speed controls twice a year and replacement of weather-stripping once a year. Recorded reports are furnished twice a year as part of the program.
MIRIC Industries can replace revolving doors within existing enclosure walls, maintaining the finish an sightlines of surrounding frames or replace a complete revolving door, including walls and canopy. We can also install new revolving doors in place of swing doors or other openings adhering to the architectural design of the building and surrounding areas.
